The bay

"A small, interior sea", open to the Atlantic, and backed by the pine forest. A wide, triangular slash, hemmed by picturesque villages, and punctuated by the incessant come-and-go of the tides, the Bay of Arcachon is an uncomparable site that you discover each time for the first time.

A preview of your next visit, we have selected some of the views that give Arcachon its reputation :

  Pilat Dune

Here, the sand reaches the summits. Today, Europe's highest sand dune rises to some 110 m over the foam of the waves. A breath-taking view of the entrance of the Bay and the Landes pine forest.

  Arguin Sandbar

Do you dream of immensity? The Atlantic opens its passages for you to cruise on the ocean, or a stop-over on the Arguin sandbar, a natural reserve, where hundreds of strens nest.

Bird Island and the "Tchanquées" Huts

From all around two houses on stilts, built over the water can be seen. Behind them, are Bird Island, the channels called 'esteys' and the paths covered with luxurious sea plants. An authentic island in the middle of the Bay, a refuge between land and water that owes it's name to the maritime birds that come here to rest and feed.
