Discover an emblematic profession in the Bay of Arcachon

A few hours before the tide, you can board a boat with an oyster farmer to share their daily routine and their passion for the sea. By sailing to their workplace in their company, you will have time to get to know each other and discover the Bay’s marine environment. Head for the Arcachon Bay oyster farms where between 8,000 to 10,000 tonnes of oysters are produced every year.

Once you have arrived at the oyster farms, you are witness to the captivating profession of the oyster farmers. Depending on the tide and the season, they adapt their work constantly to produce high-quality oysters. Their varied tasks require great versatility, from installation of spat collectors, turning and separating oyster bags, in addition to cleaning the cages or harvesting the oysters which are ready to be refined, sorted or sold. No day is ever the same at sea when you pamper your oysters. During the three years they are raised the oysters develop gustative features which give Arcachon its great reputation.
