Eco-friendly vacations

Designing vacations with a brand-new approach, respecting our surroundings, resources, others and ourselves, experiencing simple pleasures, sharpening our curiosity, preserving what needs to be preserved… so many elements that will make your stay in Arcachon a privileged moment with a taste of freedom and iodized air.

“It really is possible to spend a vacation in Arcachon without a car. This detox cure does us and the planet a world of good,” explain Laeticia and Adrien, vacationers passing through.

Alternative solutions exist!

No more traffic jams, no more stress, just leave your car behind. Here, everything has been thought of to make your stay easier.

When you’re here, don’t hesitate to get on your bike. There’s no better way to enjoy a pleasant family experience and share good times together. With over 22 km of cycle paths in Arcachon and 220 km on the whole of the Bassin, you’ll discover some fabulous scenery. So saddle up!

“We combine the pleasure of the great outdoors, a fun activity at our own pace and the satisfaction of not polluting”.

“The “Bassin d’Arcachon” app makes it easy to find your way from one point to another.

Don’t have a bike? Many rental companies are available to welcome you and offer you the most suitable model: classic or electric, the choice is yours!

To get around in an environmentally-friendly and practical way, take public transport. Baïa buses link all the towns in the southern Basin and drop you off at the foot of the Dune du Pilat and the ocean beaches. Want to discover the Bassin in a different way? The boat bus (summer period) combines business with pleasure, linking the various piers of Arcachon, as do the maritime shuttles to Cap-Ferret or Andernos. You can even bring your bike!

RESPECTING THE ENVIRONMENT

Arcachon’s fragile natural heritage is the focus of all our attention. So on vacation, let’s adopt the right reflexes and reconcile pleasure with respect for the environment. Marveling at nature’s treasures, discreetly observing animals, strolling along marked paths… these are just some of the simple gestures you can make to appreciate the local flora and fauna. If the activity of the day is a family fishing trip, the little crabs and other crustaceans will prefer to stay in their natural environment to grow up.

Tip

Do you like cockles or clams?

Did you know that the Tourist Office provides a ruler to help you identify the size of shellfish to preserve?

Eat local

Taste the local specialties. When you come to Arcachon, who can resist the traditional tasting of oysters accompanied by a glass of white wine, or delicious fish straight from the fish market?

For lunch, you’ll find a number of restaurants working on short circuits to delight your taste buds.
Last but not least, a must for gourmets is the Arcachon market, where you’ll find all your seasonal fruits and more. In summer, it’s open every day from 7.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m.

Keep up your good habits

Are you used to sorting waste? To find out how it’s organized here, the Communauté d’Agglomération du Bassin d’Arcachon Sud (COBAS) has created the “COBAS Collecte Déchets” application. All you have to do is download it.
